In 2001, Kyal embarked on a new chapter, immersing himself in the study of architecture. Since then, Kyal has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of the Gold Coast through his work on various renowned projects.

Throughout his illustrious career, Kyal has contributed to a myriad of award-winning buildings, each a testament to his visionary approach and unwavering commitment to excellence. As a draftsman and designer working for other amazing firms, Kyal has worked on iconic structures like the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Center, innovative wave pools, stylish restaurants, and a plethora of award-winning homes and high-rises, all crafted with meticulous precision.

Kyal's journey as a design and drafting manager for esteemed companies, including Villaworld Homes, Haylcyon Management specializing in high-end over 50's communities housing, and Samda Developments, honed his leadership and management skills. His time in these roles allowed him to oversee the creation of visionary projects that have set new standards in architectural design.

From 2007 to 2014 Kyal also co-owned a Hudsons Coffee Shop at John Flynn Private Hospital where he had 12 staff working for him. Together with his chef background this experience has made Kyal a sort after designer for cafes and restaurants.

In 2018, Kyal Thornton boldly ventured out on his own, founding Kyal Thornton Building Design. His eponymous firm embodies his lifelong passion for innovative design, meticulous planning, and attention to detail.
